Whose Body Is This?
Five changes you can expect this trimester – and how to cope
1. You’re gaining weight because your body is producing more blood and storing more fat, and your hands, breasts, feet, and face are swelling. How to cope: Stick with a low-salt diet, increase your protein intake, and try to avoid eating too many carbs.
2. You’re constipated due to pressure your uterus is putting on your bowel. How to cope: Use over the counter stool softeners or switch to a multivitamin that has a stool softener in it.
3. You’re starting to see stretch marks because, as your skin stretches, skin proteins break. How to cope: Keep your skin moisturized using lotions with collagen and elastin. Drink plenty of water, too.
4. Your back aches due to your rapidly growing abdomen and posture changes. How to cope: Wear low heeled shoes, sleep with a pregnancy pillow, and consider massage therapy.
5. You have acne prompted by an increase in placental hormones. How to cope: Look for topical remedies that decrease the bacteria and dry out excess oil on the skin surface. You may want to try Beaute de Maman’s Pregnancy Acne Combo, specially formulated for Pregnancy Acne.
