Topical tea tree oil is a broad spectrum antimicrobial agent with anti-inflammatory activity. These properties have formed the basis for its use in the treatment of acne vulgaris. There are numerous double blinded studies demonstrating the successful effectiveness of tea tree oil for the treatment of acne.

In fact, there are head to head studies demonstrating the same effectiveness of tea tree oil with benzoyl peroxide but the advantage of tea tree oil is that it does not bleach bed clothes,bedding ,and hair, is very cost effective, and gentler in its onset of action.

Repro toxicity reports confirm safety in pregnancy when used topically since there is virtually no systemic absorption at the percentage that is used. We are using 1.5% in our product.–completely pure with no contaminants.

Contact dermatitis is the only possible side effect, as in all topical acne treatments, and we did extensive insult patch testing to guarentee that dosages were appropriate and that we would not have this side effect.

In addition, we did our own testing on hundreds of pregnant women prior to the products being released and the effectivenss and safety profile were outstanding.

As a follow up to my previous question regarding Tea Tree oil in your facial cream, what is the percent of this oil in the product? I’ve read that ~2-5% is an effective quantity when applied topically, at least to treat acne.

Also, I’ve come across claims that Tea Tree oil can induce pre-term contractions, although I cannot find the source of this claim (I am a PhD biochemist, so I usually scour PubMed or other literature for information). Is this true? I’m guessing this may relate only to oral use of Tea Tree oil, not topical use?

I’m assuming your team has done more extensive research than me, so perhaps you can enlighten me on the safety of this chemical.
